Alrighty, crafty people! I need some ideas. My two older kids share a room and have a bunk bed. My oldest (a girl, almost 8) wants some privacy from her brother (almost 4) so she has asked for me to make her a tent-like curtain to go over her top bunk. What am I supposed to do? I have an idea but I'm not sure if it will work so I need someone to help me with ideas to make it work.
What I was thinking was I could get some pretty pink fabric and make a short 'curtain' and then buy a pretty lavender sheer curtain and cut it down to go over that just for pretty. Then I would sew some little hanger-type knots on all four side tops so that I can hang it from J hooks. But my question is how would she climb into her bed from her ladder? And if we figured out a way for her to be able to do that then how would she be able to keep them open when she wants light? There has to be something I, or someone else, can come up with that I can make for her for her birthday. Please, someone...anyone help me figure out a way to make this!
I was going to move her little sister into the room with her but she is so little (she'll be 2 in March) and I don't think she's ready to be out of her crib. So she'll just have to stay in the room with her brother. But I know she really wants privacy! She's a little girl that is becoming a little lady. Hell I'm a 28 year old, married woman and I still need (but never get) privacy! lol
Is there anyone out there that is crafty enough to help me come up with an idea or two? Please...I'm desperate!

Hi -- Well, maybe you could get some ideas online. I have looked up bunk beds in the passt, and they show some with that tent idea, which looks like so much fun.
Also, and I have never tried this....but is there a possibility that you could suspend the curtains from the ceiling, like they show sometimes above beds? I think they can be kept back and open with sort of tie-backs.
I think the ones on line that have the tent effect, also have some kind of bowed rod that keeps the fabric up above the sleeping area.
What if you could find a bar that was round and you could suspend the curtains from that in sections. If you did a few sections, she could open one to get up or to get light in. If you could figure a way to hang it a few inches down, she could get light in that way too.
The other way you could do it would be to add "windows" into one of the sections, with tie backs or velcro, so she could open those up to get light in. I'd do a search for ideas on-line.
I hope that all makes sense. Good luck, I hope you can figure something out.
