Well as many or all of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Cancer is a scary, evil thing that, for some, rips away your life before you are ready. It destroys families and breaks the hearts of thousands each and every year! One of my mother's dearest friends is currently loosing her battle with cancer. It started out as breast cancer and has now spread throughout most of her body. Kim is a strikingly beautiful woman on the inside and the out, she is a wonderful person in the eyes of everyone she meets and when she does get called Home she will be dearly missed by us all. I pray every night for her and her family. She has a loving husband, a loving family, friends, kids and grandkids that still need her. Her work here should not be over yet, she is a true inspiration to so many.I have lost friends and family to cancer, not only breast cancer but cervical cancer, skin cancer, lung cancer and so on. It is truly devastating knowing how many women and men are diagnosed with cancer every year. I read from the above link that, "Each year it is estimated that nearly 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die. Approximately 1,700 men will also be diagnosed with breast cancer and 450 will die each year..." Why are the numbers so high? What can we do to help find a cure to this terrible disease? Donations and Cancer Walks are both wonderful ways to give and help find that cure that we are all so desperately waiting on.
But also early detection! Early detection improves your chances of survival. I am 28 and still have not had a mammogram. I don't know whether it's because I'm too afraid of what I'll find out, because I'm too busy or maybe just too lazy to make and keep an appointment that's not for my kids. Whatever my reasons have been I am going to get my mammogram done asap!
Please get your mammograms done and remind your friends to do it also. Cancer is something that many women and men think cannot, will not, could not happen to them but cancer does not discriminate. It does not care who it's next victim or survivor will be. Cancer is there, it is ugly, it is hard to deal with, it destroys lives and it sucks! But together we can all help find a cure for this devilish disease. Please keep Kim in your thoughts and/or prayers. And post here anyone that you know that is suffering from cancer and I will host a prayer day here for everyone who is battling this monster. Together we can find a cure, help those that are suffering and pray for all those affected by this. Thank you for taking the time to read this and God bless you all.
*Cancer Poem by Steven Felker*
It's a terrible disease;
That affects millions of lives.
It affects sons and daughters;
And husbands and wives.
People take the news; Different kinds of ways.
It makes some people cry; And puts some in a daze.
Some people pray; And fall down to their knees.
But you've got to be strong; To beat this disease.
This fight can be won; Believe it or not.
You just have to put your faith in God;
And pray a whole lot. So keep your head high;
You'll soon know the answer. And you too;
Will be a survivor of cancer.
That affects millions of lives.
It affects sons and daughters;
And husbands and wives.
People take the news; Different kinds of ways.
It makes some people cry; And puts some in a daze.
Some people pray; And fall down to their knees.
But you've got to be strong; To beat this disease.
This fight can be won; Believe it or not.
You just have to put your faith in God;
And pray a whole lot. So keep your head high;
You'll soon know the answer. And you too;
Will be a survivor of cancer.
