My oldest is in 2nd grade! Oh what a great place to be! Not too much homework, recess, lunch, girl talk, a little work here and there and no major adult problems to deal with. Oh how I miss those days! So tonight we were *trying* to work on homework together.
Her: "Mama, I don't want to do this homework! It's boring!"
Me: "Well I thought you wanted to be a doctor and deliver babies or find a cure for Lupus for your aunt?"
Her: "Well (long pause) I do but I still don't like to do homework!"
Me: "Well unless you want to live in a van down by the river you need to do your work so that someday you can go to college to do something wonderful with your life."
Her: "I do want to live in a van. That would be cool!"
Me: "Get your pencils out of your hair and start working!"
Her: How much does a doctor make anyway?"
Me: "Well, I haven't looked at a doctors bank account lately but I would guess something like $200,000 a year! Enough to make some good money to support your family and have a nice house and any kind of car you want!"
Her: "WOW! That would be awesome! And I could paint nails and toes after I get off!"
Me: "Honey if you are a doctor I will let you paint my nails whenever you want. You don't have to do that for a side job!"
*She starts doing a little work.*
Her: "You know mama, if I became a doctor I could have you live with me in my huge house and we could have breakfast together every day!"
Me: "See your homework is already making you smarter! That was a great idea honey! You could even just build me a house right next to yours!"
Her: "I'm totally doing that mama! You'll be with me forever!"
Oh now I really wish I had that on tape! lol Then someday I could pull it out and say, 'Hey, you said you wanted me to live with you forever! Now help me carry in my luggage! And by the way, what's for dinner?'
