A needed vacation

Ohhh....what I would do for a nice, relaxing vacation!!! A week or two at the beach sounds like heaven! Sitting there with your family, a good book, a nice drink, the sound of the ocean, the sun on my skin, the smell of coconut tanning oil and enjoying the quiet...wait...did I say "quiet"? Opps...I meant LOUD laughter of children playing and the occasional sibling brawl with sand pails flying, screaming "he hit me! No, she hit me first! I did not! Yes you did! Well you threw sand in my hair! Did not! Did too!" and me yelling "BOTH OF YOU IN TIME OUT NOW!!! THIS IS A RELAXING VACATION YA KNOW!". Yea, I could do without the last part but the rest of it sounds wonderful.

The last vacation we took was to Springfield, IL about a month or so ago. Home of Abraham Lincoln. It was fun. We did 3 museums and 2 historic sites within 2 days and then hit Six Flags on the last day. The kids really enjoyed it and it was pretty inexpensive. But I'm talking about a week or two on a B E A C H!!! We haven't been to a beach since 2002! My parents used to go every summer and we would tag along for the free vaca. It was so nice. We had a private, separate apartment that was attached to the house they would get, a private pool, a private boardwalk to the beach and it was within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. We went wave running and did para sailing. We also used to go to another small island (I can't remember it's name) and dive for seashells. Ahhh....the wonderful memories I have of that place. How I long to go back!!!

My hubs works two full time jobs so that I can stay home with the kids and raise them how WE want them to be raised. Although, I'm no expert and sometimes wonder if I'm doing them any good by staying at home and trying to teach them the things that I think are important. Will this someday come back to bite me in the ass? Gawd...I hope not! So anyway, back on topic, my hubs works two jobs and we never get to see him. Sometimes I wonder how I got pregnant with three kids in the first place. He hasn't had a vacation since 2002! And that's because I took out the last 2 day vacation and also took out his "vacation" to stay with me in the hospital when we had our 3 kids. Yea, like that was really a vacation anyway! LMAO!!!!

It doesn't even have to be a vacation to a beach. I'd take a weekend at a hotel, just the hubs and I. No early mornings, no 2am wake up calls from sick little ones, no screaming in the middle of the night because the kids forgot where they are (or me for that matter), no diapers to change, no meals to be cooked, no cleaning to be done, no chores of any kind. Just peace! Sleeping in until 1 in the afternoon sounds wonderful. Ordering room service? Ohh...now THAT sounds perfect! Staying up as long as we want to watch movies or play games because we don't have to be up early, sleeping in the buff (just because we can) and the BEST part...NO ALARM CLOCKS! Whatever kind of vacation it is...I'll enjoy it as long as it's far away from where we live and is relaxing!

So tonight when I get in bed and replay every event, word, fight, timeout, meal and so on that happened today I will also try to imagine myself on the vacation that we want so badly to go on and are so deserving of. It's not easy working two full time jobs and it's no picnic raising three kids by myself. I think it's time for one. Maybe next summer we can go back to Destin and bury our feet in the sand. Come to think of it...if the kids are doing the fighting and back and forth yelling that I KNOW they will be doing, maybe I'll just bury my head in the sand while all the other parents there look at me like I'm some alien from another planet b/c my kids are acting up so much and you KNOW their kids NEVER did! lol YEAH RIGHT!
